Textile design has always been central to Mae Engelgeer. This interest developed during the early years of the Dutch designer’s education, and during her studies at the Amsterdam Fashion institute and at the Sandberg Institute. Since the opening of her studio in 2013, Mae Engelgeer has been nurturing her curiosity towards the world of craftmanship, researching in the textile field with the aim of renovating and interpreting traditional techniques. The work of Mae Engelgeer is characterised by the combined use of soft colour palettes and linear motifs to create complex compositions which produce harmonious effects. Her creative experimenting with contrasting materials and patterns gives birth to pieces with vibrant tactile and dimensional qualities. Beyond her own collections, Mae Engelgeer collaborates with several international brands, acting as art director. She is also involved with interior design and textile projects, large-scale installations, and public art.
